Hi there,
Here is my first email out from our new home, and us all together as a family....
Richard left hospital almost 3 weeks ago, and we moved to Beenleigh (30 mins south of Brisbane) into a disability house all together – including our dog Star – so it’s great to be together as a family again, after 11 long months.
While that is exciting for us, it’s also been incredibly overwhelming and at times extremely difficult, as we adjust to having carers in the house six and a half hours a day, daily meetings at the house with all the TRP (transitional rehabilitation program) workers, not to mention the constant stream of tradesmen who have been improving the house for Richards needs (eg laying linoleum to replace mouldy carpet and/or concrete). It’s not left us much time or space to be a family again, but we know this is a mere hiccup in the journey and life will settle down to some kind of recognisable routine before long.
This weekend (15th March) we are heading to Bangalow for our first overnight visit and we are all pretty excited! The reason we are coming, is BOLLYWOOD IN BANGALOW! Our dear friends Karen Matthews and Rachel Wallen and the Richard Allen 14 fund (fundraising committee) are putting on a fundraiser curry night (poster BELOW) and we’re coming down for it... The only worry at this stage – what to wear! However, Richie is keen to wear the costume he wears to every costume party we’ve ever been to, and I’m sure I can find some spingly spangles, bells, bindi’s and the like, to shake my booty to DJ Hunters tunes. If you are keen for an evening of Bollywood in Bangalow and a catch up, please email (address in cc line above) Karen or phone her on 6687 1165 asap as there will be no tickets sold on the night due to catering.

Hope 2008 is proving a positive, healthy and happy year for you all, and apologies for my lack of communication over the last few weeks/months/year as sometimes picking up the phone or returning an email has seemed an impossible task in light of everything that has been going on and continues to demand my attention, energy and time.
